FRIC research result webinar: Smoldering
The results from two different studies on smoldering will be presented in this webinar.

“Effects of external cooling on smoldering fire in wood pellets”

Speaker:M.Sc, Dag Olav Snersrud, RISE Fire Research AS

Abstract: A bench-scale experimental study was performed to explore the effects of external cooling on smoldering fires in wood pellets. The effect of water flowrate on ignition time, smoldering duration and heat transfer was investigated.

“Intermediate-scale smoldering tests”

Speaker: M.Sc, Cristina Sanfeliu Meliá, RISE Fire Research AS

Abstract: The main objective was to further investigate the controlling parameters of smoldering combustion in an intermediate scale test setup (57 cm) and to study the scalability of the observations made in small scale (10 cm). We studied the smoldering temperature, time to smolder, smoldering duration and mass loss rate of fuel (wood pallets) as function of the sample height.

The research has been carried out as part of project 20433-2 Smouldering effects of cooling in work package 2 in FRIC

The webinar is free, open for all and will be held in English.

The webinar will start with a presentation of the results from the project, about 25 minutes, and will be followed by about 5-10 minutes for questions and discussions with the researchers. You are welcome to ask questions in English or in a Scandinavian language.

The webinar will be recorded and published.
